Guest Speaker: Carmen Domingo

Dr. Carmen Domingo, dean of the College of Science & Engineering (CoSE) at San Francisco State University, is the first woman to be appointed to the position. As a Latina scientist, Dean Domingo is part of a select group nationwide: Only 3 percent of U.S. higher education administrators are Hispanic/Latino. She joined SFSU's Department of Biology in 1997 and has been dean since 2017.

Commencement Speaker: Katie Hafner

Katie Hafner is an accomplished journalist and author. Hafner served on staff at The New York Times for ten years, where she remains a frequent contributor, writing on healthcare and technology. She has worked at Newsweek and BusinessWeek, and her articles have appeared in prominent publications such as Esquire, Wired, The New Republic, The Washington Post, and O, The Oprah Magazine. In addition to her journalism career, Hafner has authored several books, including "Cyberpunk: Outlaws and Hackers on the Computer Frontier" and "Where Wizards Stay Up Late: The Origins of the Internet." Hafner published her first novel, The Boys, in 2022.

Hafner's work continues to shed light on significant historical and technological narratives, making her a prominent figure in contemporary journalism and literature. As Hafner continues to be an influential voice in journalism and literature, she is co-founder and co-host of the podcast series "Lost Women of Science". This podcast aims to highlight the contributions of female scientists who have been overlooked or forgotten in history. Each episode delves into the lives and achievements of remarkable women, bringing their stories to light and celebrating their impact on science and society.
