Talk: Life & Death in the Early Cleveland Mining Settlements with Tony Nicholson

Join local historian Tony Nicholson as he takes you on a journey back to the raw and rugged early days of Cleveland’s ironstone mining industry.

Discover the dramatic stories of the pioneering settlements that sprang up around the mines, including a chilling true tale from Christmas Eve 1873 – the murder of Mary Ward in Carlin How.

Through gripping storytelling, Tony explores how this once ‘wild-west’ world of rough-and-ready mining villages evolved over time, growing into the strong, close-knit communities we know today.
