The Water Commons: Living Legacies of Utah Waterways
A symposium on preserving the waterways that sustain life, health, and prosperity in Utah

About this Event

The University of Utah’s Tanner Humanities Center presents a symposium on Utah waterways featuring speakers from multiple disciplines. Presenters include Utah poet laureate Lisa Bickmore, Great Salt Lake advocate nan seymour, Salt Lake Tribune reporter Leia Larsen, and Director of the American West Center and Paisley Rekdal. University researchers Jack Schmidt (Utah State), Greg Smoak (University of Utah), and Daniel Hernandez (Utah Valley University) will share current scholarship on water issues.

The program concludes with a screening of Wild Hope: The Shoshone Nation’s Quest to Reclaim Bear River and discussion with Brad Parry, Tribal Council Vice Chairman for Natural Resources, Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation. Local artists will display water-related artwork.

This event brings together water scholars, environmental advocates, and artists to discuss conservation and sustainability efforts related to Utah’s water resources.

Presented in partnership with the University of Utah Environmental Humanities Program; American West Center; and School of Environment, Society, and Sustainability. Additional support from the Consortium of Humanities Centers and Institutes.
