Featuring:

LARRY GURRUWIWI & MALAWURR

With special guest Afro Moses

Larry Gurruwiwi is a force of nature. A multi-instrumentalist with an incredible voice, Larry is also acknowledged as the greatest traditional Yidaki virtuoso aka Didjeridoo player in the world. It’s a role he inherited from his late father the legendary Galpu Clan leader, Mr D Gurruwiwi. Larry continues his father’s legacy working with his brothers and extended family under the name of “Malawurr” which is the Galpu name for “Family”.

The band toured Europe in 2019 and have played at festivals such as Womad and Splendour In The Grass, collaborating with artists like Gotye, Monkey Marc and MC Rayjah. With haunting songs in language about connection to land and spirit, Larry spreads his ancient culture in a transcendent modern fusion of sounds that anyone from any culture can connect and heal through.

Joined here by legendary Ghanaian musician and showman Afro Moses.

Moses is a multi-award winning, international artist from Ghana, West Africa. He is a singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and teacher with a magnetic personality who has enchanted people with his high energy music, powerful messages, showmanship and colourful stage shows around the world.

SPANKINHIDE

Led by highly respected djembe player, teacher and maker, Elliott Orr, Spankinhide has become a much sought-after African rhythm collective, with active members in South East Qld and Northern NSW. Drawing their repertoire from both traditional and contemporary sources, Spankinhide brings a dynamic but decidedly danceable set of rhythms and songs that transform their audience from wide-eyed spectators into a heaving, primal, spontaneous dance floor of wildness!

Having played headline shows at the Woodford Folk and Island Vibe festivals, Spankinhide continues their legacy of delivering world class performances. The members of Spankinhide are successful musicians in their own right, including the likes of Elliott Orr, Tsoof Baras, Oliver Jackson, Marina Uehara and Alister Murray.

The very existence of Spankinhide is to fuel the fire of dance. Rich rhythms, driving doundoun melodies, crack and boom to fill the room! If you find you're not dancing, it might be wise to check your pulse - you may be dead!!!

ZORMIWASA (meaning "come play music")

EPIC!! No other word quite covers this incredible performance. Under the tutelage of Elliott Orr, some 30 beautiful humans have been learning Lambé-Djaba, a mash up of two traditional Guinean Earthen rhythms, plus Wanisai, a contemporary Chris Berry Air rhythm, each completed by extensive unison solo phrases!

From complete beginners to Elliott's most dedicated students, some of whom have been studying with him and belonging to this community for 5, 10, 15, even 20 years, Zormiwasa willl blow your mind and hearts right open!

This is the very essence of community! Many beautiful souls bringing their love of rhythm and dance into a collective moment of connection and expression.

Come early to witness this true magic!
