When Talking Doesn't Work: Helping Children Process Emotions in Therapy

Many clinicians feel unprepared and lacking age-appropriate interventions when faced with treating children. This training is ideal for beginning therapists and counselors, and/or for seasoned clinicians that have minimal exposure to interventions for children. This is an experiential, engaging training and participants will learn at least 20 basic play therapy interventions that focus on helping children process their emotions, and require only budget-friendly materials. The training is taking place in a tranquil, retreat-like setting, and will include breakfast and lunch. Lodging is available on-site as well. Register now to secure your spot.

Target Audience: Marriage & Family Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologist, Professional Counselors, School Counselors/Social Workers

Attendees should have at least a Master's degree and have the necessary education and licensure to provide therapy/counseling.

This is an introductory-level play therapy course. No APT credit hours will be available. A 6-hour CE certificate will be provided for attendees.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1. Participants will gain a basic understanding of play therapy, why it works, and when it is appropriate.
2. Participants will gain a basic understanding of directive vs non-directive approaches to play therapy.
3. Participants will learn a minimum of 15 interventions that can be used to help children ages 5-12 express and process their emotions.
4. Participants will learn a minimum of 5 interventions that can be used to help children ages 13-18 express and process their emotions.
5. Participants will gain hands-on experience through role plays and experiential learning for at least 5 of the interventions introduced in this training.
6. Participants will understand what the "RPT" credential entails, the difference between APT approved and non-APT trainings, and will receive information for purusing additional play therapy training.

Salina, Kansas is within just a few miles of the training site and offers many hotel and overnight accomodation options as well.

Breakfast/Lunch Options: A variety of breakfast options and deli-style lunch including sandwiches and salads will be included as part of the registration fee. Should you have special diet or allergy needs, you will have access to a full kitchen if you choose to bring your own food, or you can make the short drive into Salina for lunch. The registration price will remain the same.
