About the artist:
Austin is a thirty year old artist born and raised in Salina, and currently based in Bennington Ks. He graduated from Fort Hays with a B.F.A. focused on painting. Austin’s work is driven by intuitions and compulsions.

By identifying a set of boundaries to work within, the paintings in this show are created using an algorithmic process. Each step informs the next and in that way reflects an aspect of human nature. The body of work in this show contains a handful of motifs, some of which are shared between works and one which is a part of every piece. The maze-like pattern that persists through each work of art resembles that of a Q.R. code someone may see in an advert. These patterns, which Austin has labeled H.R. Codes, can be seen as an anthropomorphization of the traditional Q.R. code. This act of personalizing the impersonal observes the ambiguity of what differentiates a person from their surroundings.
