In this sultry, languorous and exotic tale set against the desolation of the once-vibrant cities of Detroit and Tangier, an underground musician, deeply dispirited by the direction the world is going, reunites with his resilient and enigmatic lover. Having already endured at least several centuries, the two fall eagerly into a comfortable, graceful tempo, but the woman's wild and uncontrollable younger sister soon disrupts their peaceful, poetic coupling. Filmmaker Jim Jarmusch approaches this vampire romance with an ease that beautifully teeters between their indifference toward humanity and their intoxication with the arts, literature and music. ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE is a sexy, splendid, cinematic tome of passion and despair seen through the cool shades of a sly, postmodern master director.
