About the Workshop

Are you a multi-disciplinary professional who experiences nature as healing and would like to explore how to create more space for nature within your therapeutic practice?
Would you like to:
• Develop nature-inspired reflexive questions that support the tracking of expression, self-regulation, and co-regulation of feelings?
• Explore systems through multi-sensory, nature-based prompts?
• Practise trauma-informed therapeutic interventions inspired by the earth, water, sky, wind, fire, the animal kingdom, and more?

Dear Practitioners,
May you be well.
Nature has been a healing space for me for as long as I can remember. My grandmother’s garden, the open fields and wild terrain, and the sea in my childhood village of Żurrieq provided me with a secure base—one that I still embody in the here and now.
Research has consistently shown that nature truly heals (Corazon et al., 2012; Kuo, 2015; Yuen & Jenkins, 2020). Being in nature is inherently therapeutic. Furthermore, incorporating nature-inspired interventions into our clinical work can significantly widen our skill set—even when working online.
These tools can be particularly supportive for individuals who experience nature as a healer and can easily access it. For some people who have experienced trauma, right-brain interventions—such as those we will practise in this workshop—may be the only accessible way, at least initially, to express themselves and regulate their emotions. The interventions aim to support attunement, emotional regulation, and deeper insight into oneself and one’s relationships.
The framework for this workshop is grounded in a model I developed through my clinical practice. Some of its tools were presented in an article I wrote for Context: The Magazine for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice (UK, December 2025). This integrative model brings together Gestalt, systemic, and trauma-informed expressive arts modalities. The interventions we will practise incorporate a somatic and multi-sensory process.
