Commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the burning of Fort Frederick

On 27 August 1775, in the early days of the American Revolution, privateers intent on interrupting the flow of supplies from the mouth of the St. John River to British forces in Boston, raided Fort Frederick at the mouth of the river, burned the Fort and captured the Loyal Briton, a brigantine carrying livestock intended for the Kings troops. The crew of the ship and members of the small garrison at the fort – with their families – were taken prisoner.
