Quiet Joys Amidst Apocalypse: What 'A Quiet Place: Day One,' Teaches Us About the Good Life

Pioneering social theorist and psychologist, Erich Fromm's last book, "To Have or To be?" (1976) explored the distinction between living centered on the possession of things and life centered on love, reason, and reverent communion with the living.

On Sunday, November 23, Dr. Jeffrey Nall will discuss how the 2024 disaster film, A Quiet Place: Day One, can help us grasp the powerful and perennially relevant distinction between living in what Fromm called the "having" state of existence and what he called the "being" mode.

Nall also argues that the film helps us recognize that the good life is not a future utopia but crafted amidst the inherent hardships and catastrophe of our ordinary mortal lives.
