About the Trainer:
Louise Coigley brings over 30 years of experience in developing Lis’n Tell: live inclusive storytelling. This innovative approach supports communication development for children and adults with speech, language, and communication needs. Louise has worked in four continents, training professionals and presenting at international conferences.
Evidence is growing regarding the benefits of oral storytelling on children’s levels of engagement, understanding and expressive language. For more than thirty years Louise has developed Lis’n Tell: live inclusive storytelling, as an approach to communication development with children and adults with speech, language and communication needs. After qualifying as an SLT, she lived and worked for five years with children with moderate to severe learning disabilities (LD), some of whom were autistic. She then lived and worked for six years with adults with LD, some of whom were also autistic. Louise has also worked for the UK NHS for many years, working with a varied Paediatric caseload and meanwhile worked for four years to integrate deaf children into mainstream education. Lis’n Tell has taken her to four continents, collaborating with Parents and training Teachers and SLTs. This includes three invitations to run trainings in Australia and Greece and Canada and twice invited to Malta. She has also presented Lis’n Tell at numerous conferences in the UK eg., The Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists, The National Association of Professionals concerned with Language Impairment in Children (NAPLIC), The UK National Autistic Society, The UK Fragile X Society UK and The Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP) and abroad: the National Conference of Speech Pathology Australia. She taught Lis’n Tell on the Post-graduate SLT training at Greenwich Medway University for over ten years. Lis’n Tell is used in UK schools and Colleges including I Can Meath School; Link Primary School for Children with speech, language and communication needs; The Treloar’s Trust; Beacon Academy and The Mount Camphill Community for adults with Learning Disabilities. Her most recent SLT trainings have included M-Learn in Athens, Greece and the NHS Paediatric Team in Hackney, London UK. Louise’s invited chapter: “Lis'n Tell: Live Inclusive Storytelling - Therapeutic education motivating children and adults to listen and tell”, is in ‘Storytelling, Special Needs and Disabilities, practical Approaches for Children and Adults’ edited by Dr Nicola Grove, published by Routledge in 2022.
