About this Event

You’re Invited!

Please consider joining us at an upcoming in-person training opportunity at CNRA Sacramento Headquarters titled, Making State Funding Accessible to All. The interactive training is open to all grant managers involved in distributing Climate Bond funding and is strongly recommended for department staff administering or supporting community-centered programs. We are planning for subsequent trainings for grant staff in Southern California.

Here are the key details:

WHEN (choose one)

  • September 24 – Wednesday - 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • October 20 – Monday - 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • November 3 – Monday - 9:00 am – 2:00 pm
  • November 18 – Tuesday - 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

BACKGROUND

This training is a key component of CNRA’s implementation strategy to ensure we meet the voter mandate that a minimum of 40 percent of Climate Bond funding benefit disadvantaged, severely disadvantaged and vulnerable communities. The sessions will focus on practical, relationship-based strategies for effective engagement, including best practices in empathic listening, understanding diverse community experiences, power dynamics and constructively navigating difficult conversations. Participants will take part in interactive small-group exercises, role-playing scenarios and facilitated discussions aimed at building concrete, actionable skills.

Departments are encouraged to prioritize attendance and support staff participation as part of our collective commitment to make state funding accessible for all.

TRAINING LEAD

The sessions will be led by engagement expert Sarah Rubin from the Department of Conservation along with DOC Engagement Analyst Jamie Fong.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES

  • Deeper understanding of the characteristics of disadvantaged communities and severely disadvantaged communities
  • Learn to adapt individual communication style for diverse contexts and stakeholders
  • Gain tips for managing conflict and empathizing with differing perspectives
  • Get to know others within CNRA who work with grantees
