First Day Hikes are a tradition in parks to get the new year started on the right foot! Join the Sabine-Neches chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists for a hike on the beach to get the year started on the right foot. Enjoy the sound of Gulf waves and the scent of salty air as we discuss the history of Sea Rim and its surrounding area, as well as the natural environment of the park. For the truly brave, come prepared to get wet and join some of the rangers and Master Naturalists in a polar plunge, southeast Texas style! When the hike is over, enjoy a small snack of traditional cabbage, cornbread, and black-eyed peas for some New Year's good luck.
This hike will be roughly a mile long round-trip. Walk at your own pace. The terrain on the beach is firm enough for most mobility devices, but uneven.
If a beach wheelchair is needed, please contact the park to find out more information!
Location: Start at the Water Refill Station
Bring: Water and shoes to walk on the beach
On busy weekends, reserve your day pass early online! Park admission is free with a Texas State Parks Pass.
Please note: You do NOT need to register or make a reservation for this event, just be sure to purchase a day pass for everyone attending.
