Sir John Egan tasked Tom Walkinshaw with bringing back the glory days of Le Mans for Jaguar. Walkinshaw told Egan that it would take three years; in 1988, TWR delivered on that promise. Thirty-eight years on, those who were there will share their memories with us on this fascinating panel discussion in front of a live audience at JLR Classic, with the winning car forming the backdrop..
Le Mans 88: INSIDE OUT is the chance to listen to a fascinating insight into the 1988 race as told by the men who were there, Andy Wallace (TWR Jaguar driver), Mike Wilds (an opposing driver in a Nissan) and Eddie Hinckley who went from being the very first employee at TWR to being race engineer in the number 2 car that took victory at Le Mans. His story is a fascinating one and seldom told in detail. Completing the panel will be Rod Benoist. Rod was the Number 1 mechanic on the winning car in '88 and became the Project Manager of the XKR-15 Intercontinental Challenge series.
Jaguar Enthusiast Magazine editor Wayne Scott will interview our guests with context from ex-TWR director Richard West.
The talk will be interspersed with footage of the race. Andy will recount his experience from inside chassis #488, the winning Silk Cut Jaguar XJR-9 (which will be on display at the event), and inside the team and beyond. Mike will offer a unique perspective from the outside, driving the Nissan R88C alongside Jaguar legend Win Percy and Aussie Alan Grice, aiming to beat Jaguar and Porsche.
This will be a lunchtime event and includes a sandwich buffet lunch in the ticket price, with the opportunity for an unaccompanied tour of Jaguar Land Rover Classic works after the talk.
