Join local historian, author and former teacher at Rugeley Grammar School and Fair Oak School, David Robbie for a journey into Middle-earth in Staffordshire as he charts the significance of the county to the author of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien.
Cannock Chase, Great Haywood, Lichfield and Newcastle-under-Lyme all feature in this fascinating story, set against the backdrop of the First World War, of the life of the young Tolkien, embarking on his great work that would eventually lead to international acclaim and adoration.

You will also be able to explore the, newly relocated, J.R.R. Tolkien book collection at Rugeley Library, including all of his most popular works, biographical and other works.
David will be selling copies of his recently published book ‘Great Haywood, Past and Present, People and Places’, which includes chapters on Tolkien in Staffordshire.
