Norman Cook AKA Fatboy Slim is a pioneer of the 1990s big beat genre, known for his unique blend of funk, acid house, hip-hop, and rock. He has become one of the world’s most in-demand DJs and his phenomenal shows are amongst the most celebrated around.
Before becoming Fatboy Slim, Norman Cook was the bassist for the indie-pop band The Housemartins, first finding fame in 1986. Following The Housemartins, he was involved with other musical acts, including Beats International, Freak Power, and Pizzaman. Fatboy Slim’s solo career took off with his 1996 debut album Better Living Through Chemistry. His 1998 follow-up, You've Come a Long Way, Baby, was his breakthrough, featuring hits including “The Rockafeller Skank”, “Praise You,” and “Right Here, Right Now”.
In the early 2000s, Cook gained national treasure status in the UK after curating huge, free beach parties in his hometown of Brighton. The 2002 event, Big Beach Boutique II, drew an estimated 250,000 people. In addition to his solo work, he has collaborated with other artists including David Byrne. He has won numerous awards, including a Grammy and several MTV Video Music Awards. In 2024, he received a Tony Award nomination for his concept album Here Lies Love, which was adapted into a Broadway musical.
