About the event

Document Shredding and Paperback Book Donation Day
Jervis Public Library will host a paper shredding and paperback book donation event on Wednesday, October 1, from 10 am to 2 pm. The event, supported by Confidata and Bliss Environmental, will be held in the library parking lot.

**NOT ACCEPTED**Hardcover books, magazines, catalogs, newspapers, electronics.

Hardcover books will also not be accepted inside the library on this day.

During the drive-thru event, all attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles for safety and to keep the line moving smoothly.

Paperbacks, also known as soft-cover books, will be collected at this event. These materials will be sorted for a variety of potential library uses. Donated paperback books may be added to the shelves, added to the book sale, placed in the library’s free bin, or used as prizes. Others will be recycled.

According to Confidata, acceptable paper items for on-site shredding include, but are not limited to: old files, computer print-outs, typing paper, account ledgers, copier paper, memos, plain envelopes, index cards, manila folders, brochures, pamphlets, blueprints, post-it notes, unbound reports, calculator tapes, and notebook paper. Items that cannot be shredded include: newspaper, corrugated paper, padded mailing envelopes, fluorescent colored paper, copier paper wrappings, and papers lined with carbon. There is a five bankers’ box limit on items to be shredded. Staples need not be removed. Boxes will be emptied and returned to participants.

How to dispose of items that will not be accepted:
**Electronics: Take to Rome Eco Drop on Perimeter Rd.
Oneida Herkimer Solid Waste Authority offers a free drop-off program for electronics recycling year-round at no charge. To learn more about electronics recycling, visit www.ohswa.org/recycle/special-programs/electronics-recycling/

**Hardcovers: Intact hardcovers cannot be recycled. Unfortunately, intact hardcovers in bad shape go in the trash. If the paper is no longer attached to the binding, the paper can be recycled in the mixed recycling set out to the curb each week.

**Magazines, catalogs, and newspapers: These go in the mixed recycling bins that are set out to the curb. They must be loose--not tied or bundled together.

For more information about this event or how to donate hardcover books to the library, please call 315-336-4570, or ask on your next trip to the library.
