Genius Loci (from Latin ‘energy or spirit of place’) supports the translocal exchange of experiences and knowledges of ecosomatic processes, methodologies and visions that focus on the embodied and regenerative relationship with the places and the communities where artistic practices are born, grow and transform - in urban, rural, naturalistic, architectural and archaeological context. The symposium is aimed at eco-oriented and community-oriented artists, scholars and pedagogues in the fields of somatics, dance, choreography, performance, theater, music, visual, multidisciplinary and curatorial arts, ecology, education, anthropology, philosophy and other related human and natural sciences. Genius Loci offers two days of in-person and online presentations, conversations and sharing of practices, performances, lecture-performances and demonstrations to explore the different roots, approaches and applications of the ecosomatic arts and to reflect on their possible ecosocial impacts.

- Ecosomatics in social and ecological participatory processes (e.g: for the protection of the commons and the most vulnerable groups in the community)
- Ecosomatics in the practices of conservation of natural environments and archaeological areas
- Ecosomatics in practices and processes of regenerative agriculture
- Ecosomatics in practices and processes of ecological mourning
- Ecosomatics in practices and processes of rediscovering wildlife in urban spaces
- Ecosomatics in practices and processes of rediscovering the relationship with cultural roots
Submission guidelines
The organizing team welcomes submissions in a variety of formats:
Presentation (20 min)
Workshop (45 min)

Performance (30-45 min)
The symposium will combine in-person (indoor or outdoor) and video-conference presentations. The event will be held in Italian. The online space will be devoted to presentations from other countries and in other languages - with simultaneous translated captions into Italian. Practice-based contributions are welcome.
Please submit a description of your proposal (what and how you intend to present, max. 3,000 characters, including spaces), a short biography (max. 500 characters, including spaces), and a photo representative of your proposal by 15 June 2025. Please specify your preferred format, whether you will participate in person or online, whether your contribution is imagined indoors or outdoors, and technical requirements.

Successful applicants will be notified by the 30th of June 2025.
*There is no remuneration for presenters. Selected applicants from outside Rome will be eligible for free accommodation (at Litus Roma Hostel, on 18 and 19 September) and can apply for a partial reimbursement of travel expenses (up to a maximum of 50 euros). Meals will not be provided. A selection certificate may be issued upon request to support possible applications for funding from other institutions.
