The Perseid meteor shower peaks the night of August 12, but the Perseids are active from mid-July to late August. It will be a full moon, so it will be harder to see the night sky. We'll have binoculars and telescope available for moon-viewing.
We ask that you do NOT bring any white light flashlights. Red lights only to allow our eyes to adjust to the dark.
Bring: Bug spray, a comfortable chair or blanket, hydration, red flashlight or headlight.
Optional: binoculars
Where: Day Use picnic area (north Rec Hall parking lot). Look for the red lights.
Accessibility: Accessible parking available. The program will take place in a flat, grassy area. For questions on accessibility, email Ranger Sara.
FYI:
- Children must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the program.
- Program is free with park entrance ($5/person, children 12 & under are free) or Texas State Parks Annual Pass.
- Groups larger than eight please contact Sara Rock for a private event.
- Program may be cancelled if no participants are present within 10 minutes of the start time, or in the case of inclement weather.
