* CALL TO WORSHIP
One: Let us come together to worship God.
ALL: Let us see how the world has divided us and join together as one
again.
One: The world divides us by ideology, by gender, by race, and by ability.
ALL: Let us be witnesses to the fact that God creates all people in God’s
image, and Christ has called all people into discipleship.
One: Let us remember that is it the powerful of the world and not the power of
God that makes some people into exiles and some not.
ALL: Let us seek to be one with all people as the Holy Spirit guides us to
be one in the community and body of Christ.
* THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, which is in heaven, hallowed is your name. Your kin-dom
come your will be done on earth as is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil, for yours is the kin-dom and the
power and the glory forever. Amen.

READING OF THE SCRIPTURES
READING OF THE HEBREW BIBLE Leviticus 14:1-11 PG. 113
The Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “This shall be the rule for the person
with a defiling skin disease at the time of his cleansing:
“He shall be brought to the priest; 3 the priest shall go out of the camp,
and the priest shall make an examination. If the disease is healed in the
defiled person, 4 the priest shall command that two living clean birds and
cedarwood and crimson yarn and hyssop be brought for the one who is to
be cleansed. 5 The priest shall command that one of the birds be
slaughtered over fresh water in a clay vessel. 6 He shall take the living bird
with the cedarwood and the crimson yarn and the hyssop and dip them and
the living bird in the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh
water. 7 He shall sprinkle it seven times upon the one who is to be cleansed
of the defiling disease; then he shall pronounce him clean, and he shall let
the living bird go into the open field. 8 The one who is to be cleansed shall
wash his clothes and shave off all his hair and bathe himself in water, and
he shall be clean. After that he shall come into the camp but shall live
outside his tent seven days. 9 On the seventh day he shall shave all his hair:
of head, beard, eyebrows; he shall shave all his hair. Then he shall wash his
clothes and bathe his body in water, and he shall be clean.
10 “On the eighth day he shall take two male lambs without blemish and
one ewe lamb in its first year without blemish and a grain offering of three-
tenths of an ephah of choice flour mixed with oil and one log of oil. 11
The priest who cleanses shall set the person to be cleansed, along with
these things, before the Lord, at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
READING OF THE GOSPEL Luke 17: 11-19 PG. 101
11 On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between
Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he entered a village, ten men with a skin disease
approached him. Keeping their distance, 13 they called out, saying, “Jesus,
Master, have mercy on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said to them, “Go
and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made
clean. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back,
praising God with a loud voice. 16 He prostrated himself at Jesus’s feet and
thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten
made clean? So where are the other nine? 18 Did none of them return to
give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Get up
and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

*HYMN OF REFLECTION “An Outcast among Outcasts” TNCH# 201
An outcast among outcasts, dismissed with double scorn,
belittled by the labels: “unclean” and “foreign born”
came back with thanks for Jesus, and then went on his way:
An outcast among outcasts showed grateful faith that day.
An outcast among outcasts, where three were crucified,
derided by the others as they hung side by side
came back from death with power, God had the final say:
An outcast among outcasts shows God to us today.
For outcast among outcast the boundaries are redrawn, by words,
“Your faith has saved you,” by cross and Easter dawn.
The distant longed for centers of power, peace, and care,
where life is free to flourish, are found now everywhere.
