BUDDY BALL BASEBALL is starting its first season!
The Optimist Club of Sterling is providing boys and girls with a wide range of disabilities the opportunity to experience the fun and emotional development of playing in an organized baseball league.
Games: All Buddy Ball Baseball games, will be played at T-Ball Park in Rock Falls, behind Dillon school. They will begin at 9:30 A.M. August 23, August 30th, September 6th, and September 13th.
Structure: Games will not be played according to the standard rules of baseball. Score is not kept, no balls and strikes. The goal is to provide the thrill of participation. Every attempt is made to allow each player an equal number of at bats throughout the course of a game. Players may elect to hit off a tee or have a coach pitch. Tentatively the game will last an hour (2 innings). Depending on players batting.
Safety: The Optimists believe safety is the first priority. During games "Buddies" help their partners who have special needs by giving appropriate assistance as needed, such as guiding someone who is visually impaired, using hand over hand assistance to help a child to bat or throw a ball, or pushing for a child who uses a wheelchair around the base paths. This interaction will be a positive experience for all participants involved. An adult and or guardian is required to be available at the park during play.
Age: Minimum age is eight (8) years old on or before September 25th, 2025. Players cannot be over twelve (12) years old on September 25th, 2025.
League Furnishes: The Sterling Optimist Club will provide all batting equipment, all helmets, softballs, ice water, and cups for the games. The balls in use are very soft. Players may bring gloves for use during the game if players so wish, though this is not a requirement.
There are times it may rain. Our volunteers / ground-keepers will update the Rain Out Information if it is determined conditions are not suitable to play. Rainout and other announcements will also be posted on Facebook and texted to parents/guardians.

Registration Fee: There is no fee required to participate in Buddy Ball Baseball.
Other Information: If you have any questions or suggestions please inform an Optimist member during the game. We are more than willing to listen to ways we can improve the Buddy Ball Baseball League.
