10 Brave Souls. 1 Big Goal. Help Make the MESS ROOM Safer and More Inclusive for Visually Impaired Artists. We are Braving the Bricks at Rochester Cathedral with Funding For All.
On Saturday 27th September, 10 of us, 5 visually impaired and 5 sighted, aged 9 to 73, are walking across thousands of LEGO® bricks (yes, seriously!) to raise vital funds for the MESS ROOM. Medway's creative hub for Blind and Visually Impaired (VI) people.
The art groups began nearly 20 years ago when artist Wendy Daws started volunteering with Kent Association for the Blind. Today, it's a lifeline for many; a space where VI people build confidence, skills, friendships and a strong sense of community.
We're fundraising for:
- Safer, non-slip flooring — better for cane users and guide dogs.
- Specialist tactile materials — so VI participants can create, explore and express themselves more fully.
- A welcoming, inclusive space where everyone can move independently and feel safe and supported.
Many of our participants describe the MESS ROOM as the only place they feel truly seen and included. These upgrades will make a huge difference; enabling us to continue offering accessible art sessions in a space that's designed with Blind and Visually impaired people in mind.
Our goal: Raise funds to improve access, inclusion and creativity for Medway's VI community.
