About the event

Sanctuary Wellness Workshop

For those with anxiety or depression, verses like Philippians 4:6-7 challenge us and inspire us, but they also sometimes discourage us, because no matter how hard we try with the best of intentions, they just don’t seem possible. We Christians who struggle with anxiety and depression do have an active and deep faith in Christ, and we believe with all of our heart that God is able. The reality is that our struggle is not simply one of spirit or faith or trust. Anxiety and depression are both spiritual and mental issues. Anxiety is not simply worrying too much, and depression is not simply being too emotional. Rather, both can be characterized by physical changes in the brain that result in real health struggles for many of us.

According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the US, affecting 18.1% of the population every year. And yet, less than 40% of those suffering receive treatment. As persons of faith, we cannot avoid the truth that our brain and our soul are interdependent realities that must both attain wellness for us to find peace.

Come and be a part of a one-day workshop, Sanctuary Wellness Workshop. Kim Pleasant, a licensed therapist with decades of experience providing mental health support, will be our facilitator. During our time together we will learn more about anxiety and depression and how to identify, address, and cope with them, so they will no longer have as much influence over us. Beyond simple lectures, Sanctuary will be a time of experiential reflection—practicing and reflecting healing behaviors in real time with expert guidance—that will hopefully equip you to find healing and wellness on your own. For those who recognize a need for more help coping, Sanctuary will be a wonderful place to make a connection with someone who can help and find a community in which to belong.

Sanctuary is open not only to our church family, but also to our community; feel free to invite others who you think would benefit from being a part of our conversation and experience. Come take the next step toward a healthier you. God knows that you are worth it. Join us as we pursue wellness and life more abundant together in Christ.

The cost is $15 per person, which includes lunch. Financial assistance is available if needed.

Kimberly Speck, MA, LPC, CSAT, CEP-II
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in trauma, including betrayal trauma, infidelity recovery, and couples therapy after relational rupture. I work with individuals and couples impacted by affairs, secrecy, compulsive sexual behaviors, and long-term trust violations.
My work includes supporting betrayed partners that are experiencing trauma symptoms, such as: anxiety, depression, hyper vigilance, grief and the loss of self. I also work with partners who have acted out, by helping them understand the impact of their choices, take responsibility and engage in accountability and repair. I work with both individuals and couples working towards rebuilding emotional and relational safety. A core component of my work involves family/of-origin and developmental trauma, helping clients understand how early life experiences, unresolved loss, and learned coping strategies contribute to present-day relational patterns and dysfunctional behaviors. This deeper insight allows for meaningful, sustainable change rather than symptom-focused treatment alone.
My approach is trauma-informed, attachment-based, and nervous-system focused, integrating experiential and relational interventions. As a CSAT and CEP-II, I offer a grounded, ethical, and contained approach well-suited for individuals, couples, intensives, and professional referrals.
In addition, I have extensive experience providing therapeutic intensives for individuals and couples, both in person and online. Therapeutic Intensives offer a focused, accelerated, high impact alternative to weekly therapy, allowing individuals and couples to experience meaningful progress in a condensed period of time. These intensive sessions, provide a highly personalized, private, and focused healing experience for individuals and couples ready to engage in deep, meaningful work. Rather than spreading treatment across months, intensives allow you to dedicate extended, uninterrupted time to the issues that matter most. I frequently collaborate with referring therapists and professionals as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
