For generations, the Appalachian Mountains have provided more than just a beautiful backdrop. They have been a living pharmacy and pantry. On this guided hike around the historic Miller Farmstead, Ranger Graham will introduce you to the native plants that carried medicinal, herbal, cultural, and historical importance to the people of this region.
Learn from Ranger Graham how Native American nations understood the healing power of the land and passed down plant knowledge through story and tradition. Discover how early settlers relied on wild herbs for remedies, teas, and everyday survival. As you walk, you’ll look closely at the plants growing along the trail and around the homestead, discussing their uses in folk medicine, cooking, and daily life.
This program blends natural history with cultural heritage, giving participants a chance to connect with the mountains in the same way people have for centuries; through the plants that heal, nourish, and sustain.
