This watch party (streaming event) introduces distant viewing, a framework for exploring how computer vision can be applied to the analysis of images and media. The presentation showcases an open-source AI toolkit for analyzing visual and multimodal collections, while also demonstrating how humanities scholars can critically engage with these technologies.
Drawing from visual culture, digital humanities, and media studies, the session highlights both the possibilities and the ethical, cultural, and political questions raised by computational approaches to visual data.
