East End Arts & Humanities Council Celebrates Ribbon Cutting at New Headquarters on Griffing Avenue

Riverhead, NY – The East End Arts & Humanities Council (EEAC) is proud to announce the official ribbon cutting of its new headquarters at 206 Griffing Avenue, Riverhead, NY on Monday, September 15, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., marking an exciting new chapter in the organization’s mission to enrich and connect the East End communities through the arts. The new Griffing Avenue location, next to Riverhead Town Hall, brings together the East End Arts Art & Music School, a fully equipped recording studio, and the Council’s administrative offices under one roof. This consolidation strengthens EEA’s ability to provide inclusive arts education and creative opportunities for the entire East End. EEAC’s relocation is due to the Town of Riverhead’s long-awaited revitalization efforts on E. Main Street in Downtown Riverhead. The proposed development, which includes a Town Square public space, a hotel, condominium units, and a blend of retail and food & beverage outlets, is also a crucial part of the flood mitigation plan to preserve the five historic structures that have housed the EEAC facilities since the late 1970’s. The buildings will be lifted, shifted, and modernized to protect them from flooding. A public amphitheater is planned for the south end of the campus to not only further community opportunities but also collect flood water. These designs and development will create a more vibrant EEAC campus for the future. While EEAC’s education and operations are now headquartered at Griffing Avenue, the organization’s beloved Downtown Riverhead galleries remain active and thriving in their current locations. Exhibitions at the Andy Tarshis Fine Art Gallery, located at 133 E. Main Street, will not need to move until Spring 2026. The organization is working to procure a temporary fine art gallery space on or around the Main Street area for when the time comes. EEAC’s 11 West Gallery, located at Peconic Crossing, 11 W. Main Street, will operate continuously. “This move has become an opportunity that allows us to grow our educational programs and community impact during this time of transformation.” said Wendy Weiss, Executive Director. “The Town ofRiverhead has been incredibly thoughtful and put in a lot of effort to ensure EEAC is supported during the revitalization construction. They have provided this great space, accessibility renovations, and movers. We are thrilled to welcome the community into this new creative hub and to be a part of progress, creating a true regional Arts District in Downtown Riverhead.” The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 11AM in the courtyard at 206 Griffing Avenue, with local officials, artists, students, and community members in attendance alongside members from the EEAC team and Board. Guests are invited to tour the new space, meet faculty and staff, and learn more about upcoming classes, performances, and events. Lessons, classes, and rehearsals also begin that day. “As Supervisor, I am proud to celebrate the opening of the new school year at the East End Arts Council and I am excited that the new 2025-26 school year will begin on the town’s campus, adjacent to Riverhead Town Hall during the Town Square construction,” said Supervisor Timothy C. Hubbard. “While we are excited to get East End Arts Council back to their home ASAP, we are thrilled to have them with us on West Second Street. The Council’s unwavering commitment to creativity and culture has transformed downtown Riverhead into a vibrant hub for the arts, drawing residents and visitors alike. East End Arts is not just a creative force but a cornerstone of our revitalization, fueling economic development, bringing people together, and ensuring Riverhead remains a destination where the arts thrive and our community flourishes.” For more information about East End Arts Council’s programs, galleries, and events, please visit eastendarts.org.
