About the event

Breaking the Silence:AConversation on Mental Health, Addiction and Recovery
Peer advocate Jason Mayo shares his story of trauma, addiction, and recovery in an honest conversation about mental health and healing.

About this Event

sometimes the most powerful conversations happen when someone sits across from you and shares the truth of their story without filters or polish. that’s what we’re creating space for on friday, october 17th when jason mayo joins us at east end thrive.

jason is the author of “in case of emergency, break childhood” - a memoir he describes as raw, darkly funny, and brutally honest about growing up with childhood trauma, anxiety, and addiction. he’s also a certified recovery peer advocate who got sober in march 2010 and has spent over a decade helping others navigate their own paths to healing.

what makes jason’s approach different is how he weaves humor into the hardest parts of his story. he’s the founder of “sober not subtle” - a platform that shares real, unfiltered voices from the recovery and mental health communities. before working in recovery, he ran successful visual effects companies in nyc, wrote award-winning dad blogs, and even authored children’s books.

this isn’t a lecture or a clinical presentation. it’s a conversation - the kind where someone who’s walked through the fire sits with others who understand that journey. jason facilitates groups at county jails, trains people in narcan use, and shows up wherever people need to hear that recovery is possible.

we’ll gather from 6:00-8:00pm with light refreshments, creating space for questions, connection, and the kind of honest dialogue that breaks through isolation. whether you’re in recovery, supporting someone who is, or just curious about mental health advocacy, this conversation is for you.

come as you are. leave knowing you’re not alone.
