Bhadreswar - Heritages along the Hooghly
Wednesday, December 17, 2025
8am to 8pm
A day trip by Car. This trip will take you to the prominent places of this town, heritages of Bhadreshwar and the 𝗧𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝗛𝗮𝗮𝘁 @ 𝗕𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝘄𝗮𝗿.
A Haat which has been revived and held every Wednesday on the banks of Hooghly river. An initiative to reconnect to our roots. Inspired by the Sonajhuri Haat of Santiniketan, the modern Tatini Haat was launched to revive the spirit of traditional markets.
No use of loud speakers nor any plastic at Tatini Haat.
Bhadreswar was the biggest and wealthiest town between Calcutta and Kalna in the late 16th century. Famous merchants like Antaram and Banamali Sarkar (in whose name we have Banamali Sarkar Street in Kolkata) of Bhadreshwar, along with families such as Pal Choudhury, Shrimani, Kundu, and Khan, were prominent in the area.
The haat was once known for importing various goods, including "Matki ghee" from Bihar, which is referenced in Rabindranath Tagore's poem "Damodar Seth".
