“Architecture is used by political leaders to seduce, to impress, and to intimidate.”
— Deyan Sudjic, The Edifice Complex: The Architecture of Power
Kraków, Riga, Warsaw and Bucharest are four cities taking part in the international research project 'UnLoc'. All of these cities share a history marked by totalitarian regimes that shaped the architecture and continue to influence the urban space to this day. During the two-year research process, we examined examples of contested post-war architecture. By inviting artists and designers, we aimed to re-examine the histories of these buildings, imagine their future, experiment with their form and search for new meanings and functions.
The project will conclude with an international symposium and exhibition at the Art Academy of Latvia.
