Als Margoliss un Volters Raits kopā ir pazīstami kā eksperimentālās mūzikas duets “Elka Bong”. “Skaņu meža” atklāšanas pasākumā (“SunsStudio”, Magoņu ielā 9) duets uzstāsies kopā ar vijolnieci Ketu Hernandesu (Katt Hernandez), savukārt festivāla izglītojošo pasākumu ciklu papildinās ar divdaļīgu lekciju: pirmā daļa, ko primāri vadīs mūziķis, kultūras darbinieks un izdevējs Als Margoliss, stāstīts par ASV eksperimentālās mūzikas kasešu “andergraundu”, savukārt otrā, ko vadīs mūziķis un multimediju mākslinieks Volters Raits, sniegs ieskatu eksperimentālās mūzikas attiecībās ar video.
Pasākumu atbalsta Valsts kultūrkapitāla fonds, Rīgas dome, fonds “Trust for Mutual Understanding”, Latvijas Mākslas akadēmija, kā arī skaņu mākslas projekts “tekhnē”, ko līdzfinansē Eiropas Savienība un Latvijas Republikas Kultūras ministrija.

Al Margolis and Walter Wright (Elka Bong): History of Experimental Sound & Video

Al Margolis and Walter Wright are known together as the experimental music duo “Elka Bong.” At the opening event of the Skaņu Mežs festival (at SunsStudio, Magoņu Street 9), the duo will perform alongside violinist Katt Hernandez. Additionally, they will contribute to the festival’s educational program with a two-part lecture. The first part, led mainly by Al Margolis, will present “one person's journey through the cassette network,” a history of cassette/DIY culture with an emphasis on such labels as Sound of Pig, RRR, etc. The second part of the event will be titled “History of Experimental Sound & Video,” led by Walter Wright and focusing on his experiences in music and multimedia art.
On September 27, both artists will perform as Elka Bong at the opening event of the Skaņu Mežs festival at SunsStudio (Magoņu street 9).
This artist talk is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation of Latvia, Riga municipality, the Trust for Mutual Understanding, Art Academy of Latvia and the sound art project “tekhnē”, which is co-funded by the EU and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia.
