The Ult Experience: A Presentation on Satire

There was a devastating wildfire in Los Angeles this winter that took nearly a month to douse. But what of the wildfires that burn perpetually, generationally, those that bring about the destruction not of personal property but of personal integrity? How do we put out the internal fires of humanity that burn beyond our senses and threaten our ability to imagine a world of wonder for all? We must fight such fire with something other than water; we have to try to put it out with a force as powerful as the elemental; yes, we shall fight the ancient fire of human disarray with the ancient art of satire.

What is satire? Is it one political side mocking the other? No. Is it a cynical style of writing that expresses no real hope for humanity? No. Is it parody just for the sake of a few laughs at someone else's expense? No. Is it a literary vehicle for someone to introduce his or her new philosophy of life? No. Is it propaganda? No. Does anyone know what satire is? A satirist might know something about satire. But where does one find a satirist in the modern world? In midcoastal Maine.

P.S. Lutz is a satirist, a poet, playwright, author, composer, and performer from New York who recently founded a sanctuary for the arts in Waldoboro. From his outpost performing arts center, P.S. Lutz idealizes touring the state of Maine in springtime, visiting every free library that will host his one-of-a-kind presentation on satire. He will make believers out of those who thought talking animals were just for kids, and he will explain satire's vital place in the history and the future of humanity at its potential best. The Ult Experience awaits all who love words, meaning, beauty, innocence, and a healthy human soul.

The evening will include an opportunity to purchase book copies of titles by P.S. Lutz.
