Supporting Students with Speech, Language & Communication Difficulties
Event Summary

This engaging and practical workshop will provide the knowledge and tools you need to better understand and support them in your setting.

What the workshop covers:

-Introduction to SLCN – understanding the range of speech, language and communication needs.
- Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) – what it is and how it affects children.
- The importance of language – how communication underpins learning, literacy and wellbeing.
- Effective support strategies – practical ways to include children with SLCN:
- Classroom strategies and adaptations
- Targeted support approaches
- Supporting pre-verbal children

Outcomes for delegates:

By the end of this workshop, you will:
- Understand SLCN, including DLD
- Recognise the crucial links between language, learning, literacy and wellbeing
- Gain practical strategies to support inclusion in the classroom and through targeted support
- Learn tailored approaches for supporting pre-verbal

Training led by: Wendy Lee

Wendy has worked as a speech and language therapist for almost 40 years. She has worked in clinical practice, higher education and the third sector, where she led on a number of projects, as well as inputting on national policy and research. Wendy is currently the Director of LINGO, which provides consultancy, professional development, resources and speech and language therapy. She works with academy trusts, schools and settings and in partnership with local and national organisations supporting speech, language and communication. She also works with the Oracy Cambridge group and is involved in national research into early language intervention.
