Learning More About BPD: A Workshop For Families & Friends (1-day)

This one day workshop is for carers (families and friends) who support someone with (or a likely diagnosis) of borderline personality disorder (BPD). It provides information about BPD and how to best support the person whilst still caring for yourselves. The group will explore a number of educational and practical approaches to learning new skills in the context of a safe environment amongst other carers.

Presenters:

Jo Veltkamp is a mental health nurse with extensive experience in a variety of roles in both private and public metal health settings. Her predominant interest lies in working with those with a lived experience of personality disorder and their carers. She is currently employed as a Senior Clinician at Spectrum working in collaboration with the Spectrum Lived Experience Team (consumer and carer) and the intake team. She also continues to work with adolescents and adults in public mental health settings.

Jackie Knight works as a Lived Experience Worker โ€“ Carer here at Spectrum. She uses her lived experience as a carer for her son who lives with mental health issues to inform her work with carers. Jackie has been supporting carers and running various workshops for carers for nearly ten years and finds the experience both enlightening and rewarding. Jackie advocates for carersโ€™ interests through her involvement with peak carer organisations. She has an educational background in psychology and public policy.

Who should register? Family and friends of people with (or a likely) diagnosis of borderline personality disorder.
