Story: Demetrius, a silversmith in Ephesus, yes, an Ephesian. Paul, of the Bible, writes to the Ephesians in the New Testament. Demetrius consults with his friends, Marcus and Lobelius on how they can disrupt the Christians who are ruining their businesses. Demetrius claims it is for love of the goddess, Diana, but Marcus calls his bluff. Marcus does not take the controversy too seriously, content to drink his friend’s superior wine. Lobelius seeks to stir the crowd in the name of religion, but is really concerned with his business endeavors. Meanwhile, Demetrius’ slave, Nicholas (possibly Nichola) conspires with Demetrius’ wife, Alasia to protect the Christians, including Paul who is slated to speak. Intrigue and deception intertwine, with twists and turns before the predictable, but satisfying end to our story. Alasia’s servant and the Announcer may be cast as male or female.
Demetrius: an authoritarian traditional husband with a soft spot for the wife he truly loves
Alasia: a devoted wife and secret Christian who refuses to submit to a false god in the name of pretense for the husband she truly cares for.

Marcus: a cynical, secular Ephesian, who challenges his friend, Demetrius to be honest and dig deep to admit he loves his wife more than his station in the community.
Lobelius: friend to Demetrius and a loud mouth who likes to bluster and stir up the crowd; a lover of chaos
Speaker: voice of Paul’s representative stating the Christian doctrine
