About the event

7 & 7 Winemaker Dinner with Antonio Sanguineti at Monterosso's!
Join us to taste 7 excellent wines paired with 7 delectable regional courses. An evening of great wine, food and friends!

Join Italian winemaker Antonio Sanguineti from Tuscany, Italy – to taste 7 excellent wines from Small Italian Vineyards paired with 7 delectable regional courses. An evening of great wine, food and friends!

The first time you find yourself blazing along in the passenger seat of Antonio Sanguineti’s car, you should brace yourself – either for a bolt of fear or for an adrenaline rush (or both) unparalleled in your lifetime. In a nation famous for its invisible speed limits and outrageous drivers, Antonio is truly one of the fastest (to his credit, he’s also one of the best). The first time you try one of Antonio’s wines, you’ll realize how perfectly they match the man – bold, intelligent reds that simultaneously suggest control and grace. But his was not an easy road; as happens sometimes in Italian families, there was a disagreement about what to do with the Sanguineti family’s land. This happened while Antonio was still a young man and, in the end, it wound up being sold. Despite his love of wine, Antonio was left without a vineyard. As he recalls it, “I owned the knowledge, but not the land.” But the accomplished young winemaker, dubbed “Il Maestro” by his colleagues, was not to be deterred. He parlayed his wine knowledge into consulting work, and now trades his expertise for the right to select the best grapes from wonderful estates. Without the ongoing overhead of an estate, Antonio is able to produce truly outstanding wines for a modest price.

Antonio has intimate knowledge of each of the estates and wines that he will share with us during this wonderful event. And of course, our favorite rockstar, Executive Chef Adam Carr has crafted a great menu of food pairings for each wine.

This is your chance to taste some great Italian wines paired with food typical of the regions. All the wines will be for sale at discounted retail prices at the event. What a great way to shop for fantastic unique Italian wines! We hope you join us for this special evening!

Small Italian Vineyards 7 Wines with 7 Courses – 11/9/25 – 6 pm:

****Bonus wine – Giocato Jongleur Sparkling Brut – Slovenia – 100% Rebula. From Goriška Brda, the white wine Mecca of western Slovenia, just meters over the Italian border from Collio in Friuli. Organically farmed (non-certified) including dry-farmed and grapes picked by hand. Aged in steel for 3 months. Winemaker Aleks Simčič is a master of white grape varieties, and a passionate connoisseur of Champagne. Here, he puts his Midas touch on a taut, sparkling Brut made from the indigenous Rebula (Ribolla Gialla) grape. Floral, slightly honied, and with intense meyer lemon aromas, it has persistent bubbles, plenty of backbone and a pleasing earthiness.

1) Cantina del Morellino Cala Civetta Bianco – Pitigliano, Tuscany – 80% Trebbiano, 20% Chardonnay. From one of Tuscany’s oldest DOCs comes this lesser-known, historic white crafted in the hilltop town of Sansano. The blend of Trebbiano and Chardonnay yields a wine simple win its approach but with great weight and acidity… along with an impressive shelf life for an unoaked white. A through-line of minerality accompanies the warm citrus, green apple, and faraway hint of saltiness (the nearby Tyrrhenian Sea is just a 15 minute drive away).
~Paired with clam chowder.

2) Cantine Madaudo Barone di Bernaj Frappato – Sicily – 100% Frappato. Perfect for a summer afternoon, Rosaria Madaudo’s fresh and fruity Frappato hails from 500 meters just outside the Etna growing one, sharing in that sub-region’s warm climate and 100% volcanic soils. On the nose, this wine exhibits vibrant cherry, balsamic, and black pepper notes… with a palate that’s clean and refreshing for a red yet maintains its poise in the glass.
~ Paired with smoked salmon salad with our house-made feta dressing.

3) Cantina Cavesana Dogliani – Dogliani, Piedmont – 100% Dolcetto. When someone invites you into their home in Piedmont, they open a bottle of Dolcetto. Although the Cantina Clavesana’s HQ is located just 25 km from Alba, this community of small growers benefits from additional altitude and an overall cooler, fresher meso-climate – ideal for a taut, traditional wine like this one. Bright vertical, and correct, this everyday DOCG delivers dark cherry (developed further through the use of concrete tanks) and dark earth in a wine that is simultaneously friendly and clean.
~Paired with grilled broccolini flat bread with cream sauce, mozzarella and parmesan.

4) Palama Nini Rosso Salento – Salento, Puglia – 100% Susumaniello. Largely forgotten and all but lost to the Salento until about 10 years ago, the fascinating Susumaniello grape has the highest levels of anthocyanins (pigments) in the sub-region, lending the wine its deep, vibrant hue. Ripe dark fruit, high natural acidity, and structural complexity all combine for a lush yet clean glass of wine – just as tasty as it is rare. Earthy, herbal undertones lend further to its overall intrigue and food friendliness. Paired with steak, prosciutto, and Swiss cheese involtini with sage infused olive oil.

5) Cantina Clavesana Langhe Nebbiolo – Langhe, Piedmont – 100% Nebbiolo. A striking combination of a clean, traditional style combined with a really fantastic price point – in other words, Piedmont at its accessible best. With its vertical tannins, firm fruit, and well-managed acidity, this Langhe DOC reveals a wine grown at higher altitude in rich, marly clay soils, and deftly managed in the cellar. Only a small portion of the juice spends time in wood, allowing the dark fruit, tobacco elements, and pleasant try tannins to shine through.
~Paired with grilled sausage polenta with house-made marinara.

6) Marchetti Casto di San Silvestro Rosso Conero – Rosso Conero, Marche – 100% Montepulciano. A doctor of agronomy, Maurizio Marchetti is part scientist in the cellar and part artist – or more accurately, part dreamer and part mathematician! His wines, crafted near the Adriatic Sea, come from the mind of a true renaissance-style thinker. Light plum and smoke grace this genteel take on the Montepulciano grape. Made from grapes grown in the shadow of Mount Conero, and just a stone’s throw from the Adriatic, this wine hails from a land of sun and sea. Organically farmed (EU certified); dry farmed; grapes picked by hand; certified vegan. Fresh yet firm in style and perfect for easy-going evenings or summertime barbeque. Dark cherry and plum, with woody, floral hints. Medium-bodied, with layered, dark fruit and well-integrated tannins. A nuanced and food-friendly finish. Aged in steel for 1 month.
~ Paired with braised lamb with rosemary fried risotto.

7) Podere Ciona Chianti Classico Riserva – Chianti Classico, Tuscany – 95% Sangiovese, 7% Merlot, 1% Alicante Bouschet. The Gatteschi family specializes in Chianti Classico Riserva - and yet they make precious little on their tiny, manicured farm. Structured and elegant, this high-altitude Riserva represents both the literal and figurative “peak” of Chianti Classico. Organic farming (non-certified), including dry-farming; grapes picked by hand. Aged in a blend of new, 2nd, and 3rd passage French barriques for at least 18 months, this is a Sangiovese that could easily age for 10 years. Layers of cherry, blackberry, and earthy beets co-mingle with balanced, taut tannins. An elegant nose, with dark cherry and woody spice. Well-balanced, with big structure and tannins. A prolonged elegant finish.
~Paired with chocolate panna cotta with spiced red wine cherry puree.
