The historic art of traditional hand hooked rugs has been admired since colonial times. Like many forms of art, hooked rugs were made out of necessity, utilizing scraps and upcycling. By pulling up loops of wool, you can create a beautiful 6 and ¼” by 6 and ¼” heirloom textile. The cost of the kit is $65.00 which contains a pattern drawn on linen, a rug hooking frame, a hook, binding to finish off the back and hand dyed cut wool. In class you will learn everything you need to know to complete the pattern at home.
~About the Artist~
Juliana is a juried McGown certified and PGC Master Artisan rug hooking teacher. She first learned about rug hooking at a Living History Festival, where it was being demonstrated. Her love for home, family and the colonial period is what drew her to rug hooking artistry but as a young mother of seven adopted children there was little time for creativity. Now that her children are grown and she can spend more time with her art, it has evolved, and she likes working in a more contemporary style. Her early formal training is in advertising and design. She is proud to have had her rugs published in Celebration of Hand Hooked Rugs 20, Celebration of Hand Hooked Rugs 24, Hooking Animals, Design Basics for Rug Hookers and Hooking Skies – The Sky’s the Limit.
Her love for children continues and she seeks to help orphaned children and the parents who adopt them by serving on the board of Healing Hearts. She currently teach rug hooking in her home, at The Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen, in Lancaster and at Tyler Park Center for the Arts.
It is her joy to help others find a relaxing way to fabricate art. To see more of her work visit www.jkfabricateart.com.
