About Matheus Moraes:
Matheus Moraes brings a wealth of experience and passion to his role as Regina’s Principal Trumpeter and Principal Trumpet for the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. A graduate of Rio de Janeiro Federal University (Bachelor of Music under David Alves) and the University of British Columbia (Master’s and Doctorate of Musical Arts under Larry Knopp) Moraes is a dynamic performer and chamber musician. He is a founding member of the Vancouver Brass Orchestra and Vancouver Brass Collective and currently performs with Big Sky Brass and Hogtown Brass. His orchestral experience includes the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra and performances with various orchestras across Canada and Brazil.
Special Guest: Richard Burdick:
Joining Moraes is Richard Burdick Principal Horn in Regina since 2003. A versatile musician Burdick has performed as principal horn with the Napa Symphony in the late 1980s the Sacramento Symphony in the 1990s and the Music in the Mountains Summer Festival Orchestra in Grass Valley California for over three decades. An acclaimed hornist composer and recording artist Burdick has performed concerti by Haydn Mozart Strauss and his own compositions. His innovative works inspired by I Ching scale patterns span neo-classical microtonal and post-avant-garde styles often integrating music with video. Burdick’s illustrious career includes performances with artists such as Joshua Bell Luciano Pavarotti and Dave Brubeck and collaborations with conductors like John Adams JoAnn Falletta and Kent Nagano.
