Frame Styles
All drums carry medicine when treated correctly.
All Drums are instruments of Prayer.
The Spirit in your Drum is not attached to a particular style of rim, that’s a human thing - we have a tendency to place meaning on physical and non physical things. With that said, here are some ‘meanings’ of the different frame sides.
7 sided - Path Drum
representing the 6 sacred directions (N S E W above & below) plus your Sacred Path. A lot of people walking a path of service are drawn to this drum, or those needing support to stay on their personal path, and assistance with living in the physical world. Another interpretation is the Faerie Star or 7 pointed Star which is fusing the 4 physical elements of air fire water earth with the 3 Cosmic Elements of magic spirit soul. A drum of Personal Truth.
8 sided - Heaven & Earth
It is called a World Bridger stabilising our physical and non physical bodies. Opening the Heart Diamond as the Heavenly and Earthly Diamonds merge. It’s is a Drum to assist anchoring divine consciousness within you and the collective.
The 8 assists with Personal Power balancing our personal will with the Divine Will.
Supporting our connection with Sovereignty, Manifestation, and the teachings of Karma (cause and effect).
9 sided – Alchemy Drum
this drum is linked to Magick and cycles of Transformation.
The 9 relates to wisdom and responsibility, and the ultimate goal is to serve humanity in an altruistic and selfless way. It will assist in integrating the energies of forgiveness and moving on.
This Drum is often used by people with a strong “Mission” it adheres to the principle of Universal Love and compassion, tolerance, selflessness, generosity, high idealism.
12 sided - Solar Drum
Representing Illumination.
It contains the Teachings of the 12 astrological archetypes/ the Sun’s Journey through the year. It carries a strong connection to energies of the cosmos and planetary magic.
Supporting people who are selfless helpers, spiritual teachers or people we look to for moral and spiritual advice.
An excellent ally for those pushing boundaries and walking the path of awakening consciousness.
16 sided – Wisdom Drum
Carries the teachings of the Medicine Wheel. The inner and outer journey of creation. The 16 supports introspection. It's wise, intuitive, independent. It is both spiritual and analytical, a philosopher with sound arguments. It tends to look for and find answers within from a well of contemporary and ancient wisdom. A Drum often used to empower our inner wisdom especially for those serving as being a solution finder/guide or mentor to others.
18 sided – Trinity Drum
this Drum is laced at the back in a trinity formation, aligning it’s energies to the power of 3, the Triple Goddess, the Triqueta.
Visually it is very round in shape. It's carries a humanitarian focus both self-sufficient and self-sacrificing for progress toward the fulfilment of our vision. The welfare of humanity is the highest priority of the number 18.
If you are looking to work with a ROUND shaped drum then the 18-sided is the frame choice. It can be laced at the back in a variety of styles.
Welcome Friends to the heart opening experience of birthing your own Medicine Drum.
The Drum is sacred, it was placed here to help the People. And with it's help we can stay centred within our own spiritual nature, respecting and communing with all our Relations.
It's medicine is available primarily because an Animal and Tree Relative have given up their earth walk for us. Their sacrifice is honoured during the ceremonial birthing of this ancient and sacred tool of Power and Prayer.
Spirit Drums are lifelong companions who teach us how to move our attention from head to heart so we may experience a deep connection to the spiritual essence within Creation.
The Spirit Drum is a Being, it has consciousness, it has connection to the Universe.
They are far more than an instrument, they carry Power, and give us support to learn how to Pray, to Commune, to Connect, Heal, Manifest, and Release energies. You will come to understand your Drum as an Elder Spirit, who has come into your life to Guide you and help you surrender to the greater forces we live amongst.
Outline of Birthing Ceremony:
Beginning in Ritual, creating sacred space & altar, making our offerings and blessings to our Ancestors, the Spirit of the Trees and Animals and to the Earth Mother.
Calling in the Spirits with Song, Offering and Journey meditation.
Sharing in a teaching circle about the medicine of the Drum, how to use them, how to care for them, how to create healing with them, and how to journey between the worlds with their help.
Crafting your Drum – this is a Journey through the Four Direction’s, we will be making Prayer Bundles along the way to honour our own personal timeline. This is a journey of weaving together our Ancestors, bringing reconciliation within our blood in order to end all conflict within us and return to being People of Peace.
Smudging and blessings the Drums to conclude the day and welcome these new Spirit's here in their new form.
All drum makers receive their own full raw hide which we will anoint with oil, the Frames are made from Cedar and represent our Ancestors, we will nourish the Cedar with an infused balm and beeswax.
The traditional Aboriginal Custodians of this Land called Gold Coast are Yugambeh people.
The Yugambe peoples were dispossessed by European invasion more than two hundred years ago. We celebrate the survival of Aboriginal people and their culture following the impact of European invasion and support their right to determine their own future.
