Knowing Trees With Levi O'Brien

Develop a strong foundation of tree biology, ecology, and identification in this immersive course. Education will involve lectures, lab activities, and field excursions into the surrounding property. Topics include taxonomy, anatomy, physiology, site specificity, historical use, cultural importance, and identification.

Instructor bio: Levi O'Brien's love for teaching about trees started while he studied and taught dendrology, entomology, and biology at SUNY College of Environmental Science & Forestry. But he doesn't believe universities and other academic institutions should have a monopoly on an in-depth knowledge of trees—something that for centuries belonged to the people—so in 2021, he started giving public and private tours in NYC for anyone who wanted to gain a greater appreciation and understanding of trees and it has just grown from there.
