Mirandolina

Short Synopsis
Mirandolina is the mistress of an inn in Florence, where she can count several noblemen as her customers and guests. However, she also finds herself constantly courted by her male clients. Fearing her loss of independence, she manages to draw them in while also keeping them at bay. That is until the Knight of Rippafratta, a proud and stubborn man with a hatred of all women, arrives and disturbs this balance.
Roles Available (playing age)
Mirandolina: (20s-40s) The mistress of the inn. Her father has recently passed, and now Mirandolina finds herself pursued by several men who are guests and servants at the inn. To maintain her independence and freedom, she keeps them interested while committing to neither.
The Knight: (20s-40s) A battle-hardened soldier, who has developed a distrust and disdain of all women. Mirandolina, used to getting her way with men, sees the Knight as a challenge.
The Marquis: (20s-70s) One of Mirandolina’s admirers. A member of the high aristocracy, very high in breeding but very low on cash. A somewhat foppish and silly character, who tries to cover up his lack of finances with grandiose gestures and theatrical displays.
The Count: (30s - 60s) Another of Mirandolina’s admirers. Unlike the Marquis, the Count is particularly wealthy. He takes a sadistic pleasure in showing up the Marquis.
Fabrizio: (20s-40s) A servant at the inn. Betrothed to Mirandolina, as per her father’s will. But like the other men, Mirandolina keeps him on a string. He is enamoured with Mirandolina but is often frustrated.
The Servant: (20s – 40s) She is the Knight’s loyal valet. Dutiful and loyal, and yet constantly pushed around by those of higher rank. The Knight seems oblivious to the servant’s feelings for him.
Ortensia: (20s-60s) Member of an acting troupe. She has come to the inn with her friend, Dejanira. To gain better rooms and treatment, they come pretending to be members of the aristocracy.
Dejanira: (20s-60s) Friend of Ortensia. A fellow actor. She finds it a little more difficult to maintain the ruse of being a fine lady—often bursting out into laughter.
No monologues are required. Auditionees will be asked to read from excerpts of the script.
Audition date: 6th of August at 7pm at the Mousetrap Theatre. Sutton Centre
