RETROspective
7 – 27 September 2025
Workspace 3496 + Gallery
Official Opening: Sunday 7 September, 1:00pm – All Welcome
Artist: Kerrie Giddings
RETROspective is a powerful portrait exhibition by Kerrie Giddings that explores the resilience, beauty, and social expectations of women through a retro-inspired lens.
Each portrait is set against bold, era-specific wallpaper from the 1950s to 1970s, evoking themes of domesticity, fashion, and cultural constraint. These backdrops are more than decorative – they highlight each woman’s individuality while reflecting the societal roles historically assigned to women.
Featuring subjects from diverse generations and backgrounds, the exhibition weaves a layered narrative of identity, heritage, and resistance. It invites viewers to reflect on the progress made, the roles redefined, and the challenges that remain in valuing women’s lived experiences.
Vintage patterns, reimagined as potent visual metaphors, frame each subject in a richly textured portrait of womanhood, where the personal and political converge.
Join us for the opening on Sunday 7 September at 1pm and experience this striking exhibition first-hand.
