ABOUT THE EVENING:
An Evening of Empowerment features staged readings of four one-act plays by Teri Hegarty that focus on women protagonists. Audience members will be asked to complete a feedback form after each play and will have the opportunity to ask questions during a talkback with the playwright at the conclusion of the evening.
FROM THE PLAYWRIGHT:
“Sometimes you have to lose your footing before you can get back up to take a giant step. All the women in these plays are making great strides in spite of themselves and their circumstances. It just takes a little bit of encouragement from a loving family member, and understanding friend, or a kind stranger.
“These plays are all about encouragement—because encouragement leads to empowerment, and empowerment is freedom.” —Teri Hegarty
FOUR PLAYS:
The Silver Bullet
A divorced socialite in post-World War II society struggles with news of her ex-husband’s upcoming nuptials. With the help of her strong-willed mother, she learns to appreciate her true inner strength and beauty.
Ice Capade
Lola Lutz is an overbearing stage mother with an endless desire to be the center of attention. When her mild-mannered, ice-skating daughter attracts the attention of a young suitor and the admiration of the ice rink crowd, it might prove more than this domineering attention seeker can handle.
The Alchemist’s Wife
Two women each alone by fate choose to defy the conventions of the day and team up to forge their own unique path.
Smile On, Mona Lisa, Smile On
A light-hearted romp set in Renaissance Italy where the quest for the perfect Mona Lisa smile brings out the talents of a quick-witted jester and unveils some innermost secrets.
