It's that time of year again for somewhere around the 40th, BHARC, annual ham radio equipment flea market and auction.
Date: Saturday, February 21, 2006
Time: 8 AM, MST and running until everyone has sold everything or run out of money. Typically around noon.
Place: Faith Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 17 Indiana Street, Rapid City, SD, across Indiana Street from South Middle School. This is the same place that we have used for the past several years.
There is no admission fee.
This is as much of a social occasion as it is a way to redistribute ham equipment. It's great fun to have "eyeball QSOs" with people that you seldom encounter in person. There should be coffee, beverages (sugared & diet sodas) and snacks available.
If you want to sell your own wares, you may purchase a flea market table or tables. If you are placing heavy equipment or anything that might mar the table, please bring some cardboard or something that will protect the surface.
If you are selling or buying items in the auction, you will need to be issued a buyer/seller number. You will be asked to fill out a brief form and will receive a card with a number on it. Keep this card handy.
If you are selling items in the auction, please mark each item with your seller number and any minimum bid. When your equipment is being auctioned, please stay nearby to answer any questions that potential bidders might have. For any items auctioned, the club will take a 10% commission. If your item sells for $100, your will receive $90 and the club will make $10. Please keep track of the items you sold and the highest bids. Our "bookkeepers" seldom make errors, but it can happen. Please verify that the club's records and yours agree.
Any equipment that is donated to the Black Hills Amateur Radio Club for auction should be marked with # 1.
When bidding PLEASE hold your bidder card up where the auctioneer can see the number. This is how we keep track of all the transactions. If you have the winning bid, please remove your newly prized possession from the equipment to be auctioned area. Again, we suggest that you keep track of your purchases in order to ensure that any errors may be caught.
When it is time to settle up, the treasure and his assistants will pull up your seller card and your buyer card, based on your assigned number. They will take 90% of what you sold and subtract what you bought. If you sold more than you bought, you should receive a check for the balance in the mail. If you bought more than you sold, you should pay the club by cash or check before you leave.
Any volunteer help will be most appreciated. You might help with keeping track of items sold/bought or holding up equipment being auctioned. You might help by handing sold items to the highest bidders. You might help with the coffee/beverages/snacks. You might help with cleanup after the event is over.
Please feel free to pass invitations to this event to any hams that might be interested in attending. Pass the word on any nets that you check into. Let's hope for good weather, a good turnout and everyone has a great time.
