SHOW SYNOPSIS:
The year is 1888, in London. What started as harmless imaginative "stories" from a child; Alice has now grown up, clinging to her stories of Wonderland and deemed mad. Locked away in Jabberwock Asylum, she has been all but forgotten in this dark and terrible asylum. Her mind now now shattered like a broken looking glass.
Did it all really happen, or is she truly insane. . . ?
Alice, with the help of her childhood doctor, Dr. Carroll, must desperately try to piece together the broken pieces about her past, her Wonderland, and her reality. Haunted by the image of the Cheshire Cat, who continues to and riddle her, Alice's wonderland is now a fight for her sanity and survival against a collection of dangerous inmates who all remind her of her past childhood adventures, now too, locked away inside Jabberwock Asylum.
The white rabbits clock is ticking, and she must find the truth before she too loses her head to Dr. Scarlett. A dangerous and callous woman who rules like a Queen over Jabberwock Asylum with a tyrannical brutality. Performing unnecessary surgeries on her patients with bloody and often, deadly results. ~
It is a captivating blend of historical fact and classic fiction with an original twist that will leave your head spinning with wonder and horrific thrills. This original horror/thriller of a show was written and directed by Stephen Farruggia and performed to sold out crowds for two straight years at Seraphim nearly 10 years ago!
The roles of "ALICE", "JACK" & "CHESHIRE CAT" are already filled by their returning, original actors. These roles are marked as "FILLED" below.
10 juicy, horrifically fun roles still need to be cast!
Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script and some improv as the show itself is interactive and requires actors to maintain character with the audience outside of scripted lines and elements.
Cast of Characters & Descriptions:
All roles have a basis in historical and fictional representations. Part of the fun is figuring it out!
ALICE- *FILLED* Female. Age 20’s. She’s not all there anymore and is considered Schizophrenic. Her reality is dangerously intertwined with her adventures in wonderland still. She cannot remember much else about her life after she got back from Wonderland and is determined to prove that she is not insane. Obsessed with getting away and going back “home” to Wonderland at all costs.
DR. SCARLETT- Female. Age 30-40’s. Dr. Scarlett is the head of Jabberwock Asylum. She rules with fear and torture. A sadistic genius, she uses the inhabitants of Jabberwock asylum as her test subjects for her psychological experiments. Dangerous and extremely controlling, she isn’t afraid to get her own hands bloody. She rules Jabberwock like a Queen and has absolutely no empathy or guilt for anything she does.
HARRIS- Male/Female age 20’s. Harris is a grossly insane cannibal. Most often locked up or in a straitjacket, Harris is curiously aware of most things going on in Jabberwock but doesn’t care so much as he/she is always just looking for their next dinner time meal. Often times will be found with Jack.
JACK- *FILLED* Male. Age ??. Jack is a dangerously, manipulative psychotic. As cleaver and observant as he is deadly, Jack is the only one Dr. Scarlett doesn’t bother working with. With an unknown history, Jack appears to be very well educated and charming as well as easily the most dangerous person at Jabberwock. Especially when he doesn’t get his tea.
TALLY- Male/Female. Age 20 - 40's. Tally is a dangerous split personality with one half being the abuser and the other half being the meek, abused. Often times in conversation with themselves and switching seamlessly from aggressively hating themselves and deadly plotting to fits of submissive fear and inane babble for help.
MRS. DYER- Female. Age 40-50’s. Mrs. Dyer is former nanny with unstable infanticide compulsions. Mrs. Dyer loves children but also loves to punish children for being naughty. She is as nurturing and she is deadly. Fond of humming a lullaby as she “punishes” those she’s looking after.
LILY & ROSE- 2 Females. Age 13-18. These sisters are not insane. They are just terribly selfish, remorseless brats. Together they are confidant and confrontational. Apart for each other, they are scared, lost little girls. They hate Alice with a passion for being the delicate flower of the asylum. Sent to the asylum by their father to be forgotten.
DEMITRI & DUDLEY- 2 Males. Age 20-40. These brothers are the muscle for Dr. Scarlett and the orderlies of Jabberwock Asylum. Not very bright themselves, they rely on Dr. Scarlett for telling them what to do. Singularly focused on doing Dr. Scarlett’s bidding and enforcing the rules of Jabberwock Asylum. Though not smart, they are imposing and physically dangerous to those they set their sights on.
BILL- Male/Female. Age 20’s. Bill is the weakest orderly in Jabberwock. He is often time relegated to janitorial duties and cleaning up after Dr. Scarlett’s experiments. Bill is smart and knows his place is out of the gaze of Dr. Scarlett. Meek and a coward, Bill also has a strong moral conscience and bothered by what really does go on inside Jabberwock Asylum.
CHESHIRE CAT- *FILLED* Male/Female. Age ??. The hallucination of the infamous Cheshire Cat from Alice’s adventures in wonderland. Haunts Alice inside Jabberwock Asylum and talks with her often but is never seen or heard by anyone else. Further pushing Alice into fits of believing she is really insane. Alice’s only connection to her childhood Wonderland.
DR. CARROLL- Male. Age 40-60’s. Dr. Carroll is Alice’s personal psychiatrist. He began working with Alice right after her adventures as a child. Not truly believing her stories, but not completely discounting them either, his obsession is with Alice’s stories and getting her mental state stabilized has cost him his reputation in the medical field.
