Blue Christmas: A Solstice Service of Comfort & Light
Sunday, December 21 at 6:30pm ET
Isaiah 64 & Isaiah 54:10–14
Not everyone enters Christmas with ease.
For many, this season carries more weight than wonder… grief that won’t soften, memories that ache, loneliness that feels sharper in the cold.
And on the longest night of the year, the shadows can feel especially close.
This Blue Christmas service is our way of making room for all of that.
Isaiah 64 gives language to the longing we don’t always know how to speak:
a cry for God to come close,
to tear open the heavens,
to meet us in the ruins and the raw places of our lives.
And then Isaiah 54 answers with a quiet and steady promise:
“My steadfast love shall not depart from you…
and my covenant of peace shall not be removed.”
That’s the heart of this service.
Not forced cheer.
Not pretending everything is fine.
But gentle honesty.
Sacred quiet.
A place to breathe.
If this season feels tender for you…
if you’re grieving,
overwhelmed,
exhausted,
or simply not feeling “merry”
this space is for you.
Bring your sorrow.
Bring your hope.
Bring whatever your heart is carrying.
We’ll gather by candlelight.
We’ll listen to scripture, poetry, and prayer.
We’ll hold silence together.
And we’ll remember that even in the bleak midwinter…
even in the longest night…
light still finds us.
