Theatre is often fleeting, and work can be staged at festivals, or abroad, or just a quick run, where we just don't make it. Theatre is also expensive to remount... but that doesn't mean that work shouldn't get shared, or that the lessons learnt in the process of making should get lost.
With the makers of the featured work in attendance, the 'Choices in Creating' series gives audiences, academics, actors and makers the opportunity to engage with theatre - seen and unseen - from the inside of process with the theatre makers who brought it to life.
Our first talk of the series features the makers of the 2025 National Playwright competition winning work : Vakavigwa (Burials / They were buried). Written and directed by Campbell Meas, this work takes on a number of difficult subjects - GBV, Xenophobia, Land Ownership - in an exciting multimedia script.

Justice and accountability are never simple. A year after the murder of a young Zimbabwean student on contested land, Detective Khanyi Mohau is forced to confront the limits of duty, loyalty, and truth. Torn between her roles as a police officer, daughter, wife, and woman, Khanyi must decide who is responsible—risking her career and community ties.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth Rankin, a consultant on the development site, must face the possibility that her silence has made her complicit in both a murder and the erasure of a community’s ancestral grounds.
As hidden truths come to the surface, both women are forced to confront the cost of their choices—and ask: who is justice really for?
