If there is one thing that Thanet audiences have come to expect from long time collaborators Sabina Desir and Jessica Lauren, it is a world class performance with world class musicianship and no, this is not an exaggeration! They have played with some of the best in UK Jazz including saxophonist Tony Kofi, guitarist Tony Remy and saxophonist and composer Jason Yarde. This year, their 4th outing at Ramsgate Festival Of Sound, they bring another incredible line-up. Tamar ‘Collocutor’ Osborn: saxophonist and multi-woodwind player who has performed with Kelis, Van Morrison, Billy Ocean, tabla maestro Tanmoy Bose, contemporary dance giant Akram Khan, the acclaimed production of Fela! at the National Theatre and Sadler’s Wells, and Africa Express.
As a bandleader in her own right, Tamar has led the hugely successful Collocutor for a number of years. Among many exciting projects this year Tamar released an album with trio ‘Tryp Tych Tryo’ the highly anticipated ‘Warsaw Conjunction’ which garnered enthusiastic reviews from press and fan's alike. Rising star on the Afrobeat scene and regular contributor of the Dele Sosimi Orchestra…prepare to be totally blown away by our Afro Blue soloist.
Drummer Shane Forbes is a co-leader and founder of the internationally acclaimed and MOBO award-winning group EMPIRICAL who have been a force for representing UK jazz for over a decade. One of the UK's most in demand drummers, some of Forbes’ career’s highlights include regular appearances with the likes of Tomorrow’s Warriors, Jean Toussaint, Billy Jenkins, Claire Martin, Robert Mitchell and Soweto Kinch. His particularly impressive textural expressiveness and musical freedom have been the trademark of his sound in the countless projects he’s been a part of, both in the UK and worldwide.
Bassist Jason Simpson has played at RFoS 3 times with Sabina and Jessica and they are thrilled he joins them for their 4th appearance. The last year has seen Jason touring with Ibibio Sound Machine in Europe, Canada and USA . A break in his schedule came up and they jumped at the chance to have him on board for this gig. He is a deeply soulful and sensitive player ….you'll see!
