About the event

Cyanotype Jewellery Workshop with Jasmine Horton
Create your own wearable taonga using the cyanotype process while exploring whakapapa and whakawhanaungatanga in this hands-on workshop with Karanga atu, Karanga mai artist and jewellery maker Jasmine Horton. Saturday 30 August, 10am - 1pm

Join artist Jasmine Horton (Te Āti Haunui-a-Pāpārangi, Te Atiawa ki Whakarongotai, Ngāti Tūwharetoa) for a creative and reflective workshop where you’ll learn how to create jewellery using the alternative photographic process of cyanotype.

In this workshop, you’ll explore photograms and printing with negatives, using different ways to create unique patterns and imagery. Along the way, Jasmine will guide you through ideas of whakapapa (genealogy) and whakawhanaungatanga (connection), encouraging you to reflect on personal symbols and stories.

Participants will have the option to craft their own cyanotype brooch or earrings - a one-of-a-kind taonga to take home.

No experience necessary. All materials provided.

About Jasmine Horton:

Jasmine is a member of the Māori print collective Toi Whakaata (est 2006) who’s work tends to explore the concepts of haukāinga (home), whakapapa (genealogy), ūkaipo (origins) and wairua (spirit). How environment & wellbeing, land & spiritual connectedness and culture & identity all intertwine.

Her work is currently on display at Te Atamira in the exhibition Karanga atu, Karanga mai – calling outward, calling inward.
