About this Event

Bug Jazz was born in 2023 out of a creative exercise during a five-day-long improvised recording project in Upstate NY. The group had created a map of fictional island to 'play through', the Western half of which was inhabited by subterranean human-sized bugs. What might these bugs listen to? We figured perhaps some kind of atonal music bearing similarities to elevator jazz. Since these initial sessions, Bug Jazz has grown from a performance exercise into a recording/performance collective that blurs the line between live performance, recording, and mixing by playing directly through a 4-track tape machine. We aim for an aesthetic that's 40% spiritual free jazz and 30% Andrew W.K. 'the only thing better than a guitar solo is a guitar solo played on a guitar that looks like a slice of pizza’.

Hannah Koegler is a Brooklyn based harpist, composer, and singer-songwriter. Pairing sentimental harp and poetry with experimental percussion and field recording, her work explores movement and intuition, intimacy in the digital age, and relationships with nature. Taking up the harp at 19 after seeing herself play in a dream, she has since had a varied career, composing an album of alien music for the Centre for Exoplanet Research in Scotland to digital reinterpretations of harp music for fashion house Iris van Herpen at Paris Fashion Week in 2022. Her responsive harp compositions and field recordings underscore the audiobook “Ebbed Tide” written by artist and psychic Byzantia Harlow and narrated by American priest Marc Powell. “Ebbed Tide” will be installed in an audio-visual exhibition at the Millbrook Chapel of Rest in Cornwall, England from September 16-22 and aired on Resonance FM to coincide with the exhibition dates. She is currently working on a solo-project: a harp and voice album titled "Homebody.”

Hanging Blanket makes acoustic music that is meant to be listened to outside, like a blanket air-drying in the heat.
