The Gavin Ahearn Trio brings together three of Australia’s most accomplished jazz musicians: Gavin Ahearn on piano, Jonathan Zwartz on bass, and Cameron Reid on drums. Their repertoire blends original compositions, as well as ballads and selections from the Great American Songbook, offering audiences a rich and expressive musical experience.
Gavin Ahearn is a lyrical jazz pianist, composer, and producer whose career spans continents and genres. Trained in classical piano before studying jazz in Sydney and New York, he has performed at major festivals and collaborated with ensembles across Europe, Asia, and the US. He’s the only Australian artist to release an album on the prestigious Steeplechase label and continues to perform with groups like Mira, Hammerhead, and the Tuesday Night Jazz Orchestra.
Jonathan Zwartz is a celebrated double bassist and composer known for his emotive style and ambient jazz compositions. After transitioning from pop to jazz, he became a key figure in Australia’s jazz scene, releasing acclaimed solo albums including Animarum, which won Best Jazz Album at the ARIA Awards. His long and celebrated career includes working with the great Bernie McGann, Mike Nock and Sandy Evans.
Cameron Reid is a versatile and in-demand drummer whose dynamic style incorporates elements of jazz, funk, soul, and beyond. He has performed with many of Australia’s top artists and toured internationally with names like Laura Fygi and Hendrik Meurkins. In addition to his performance career, Cameron is a dedicated educator, teaching drums and percussion at leading Sydney schools and mentoring students through ensemble workshops.
